Two Boys Assaulted After Eating Father’s Nshima

Two children aged 11 and seven have allegedly been assaulted by their mother in Kalulushi after they ate nshima which had been left for their father.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner RAE HAMOONGA says the incident happened on Wednesday evening in Magum Compound, after the children allegedly disobeyed their mother’s instruction to fetch water.
Mr. HAMOONGA says the woman, aged 46, had ordered the children not to eat anything in the house as punishment, but became angry after discovering they had eaten the nshima she had reserved for their father.
Mr. HAMOONGA says the mother allegedly picked up a kettle and assaulted the two boys, leaving the 11-year-old with injuries to his eye, head and right hand, while his seven-year-old brother sustained injuries to the forehead and nose
He said in a statement today that the children were rescued by a concerned member of the public, who reported the matter to police.
The Copperbelt Police Chief said the children were subsequently issued with medical reports and taken to hospital for treatment.
Mr. HAMOONGA said the suspect has since been arrested and charged with assault on a child, and is being detained at Kalulushi Police Station as investigations continue.
