TWO MAJOR RUSSIAN ENERGY FACILITIES SHUT DOWN AFTER UKRAINIAN STRIKES
Ukraine’s General Staff has confirmed that the August 26 strike forced the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery in Kstovo to halt operations. One of Russia’s largest refineries, the facility normally processes up to 17 million tonnes of crude oil annually.
The General Staff also confirmed that the Novatek-Ust-Luga gas-condensate complex near Russia’s Baltic coast stopped operating following another Ukrainian strike on September 1.
At Ust-Luga, the attack reportedly damaged pipelines connecting an oil-transfer pumping station with storage tanks, causing a 200-square-meter spill. The primary gas-condensate processing unit and two distillation columns were also hit. A separate pipeline fire caused another petroleum spill covering approximately 250 square meters.
These were not temporary flames photographed for the night. Ukraine reached two strategically important facilities hundreds of kilometers apart and disrupted the machinery Russia needs to process, store and export energy products—the same industry that continues financing Moscow’s war.
