U.S. DESTROYS IRANIAN MISSILE LAUNCHER ON QESHM ISLAND NEAR THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ

The U.S. military destroyed an Iranian surface-to-air missile launcher belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Qeshm Island on Monday night, following an Iranian missile launch directed at a U.S. military aircraft in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Axios, citing a U.S. official.

According to the official, a U.S. fighter jet neutralized the Iranian system in what Washington described as an act of self-defense.

The Wall Street Journal separately reported that the strike was part of a series of limited military operations quietly conducted by the United States against Iranian facilities in recent weeks.

U.S. officials have described these operations as defensive measures aimed at preventing Iran from threatening commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy trade route.

The reports are based on statements from U.S. officials cited by the two media outlets.
