U.S. Rejects Iran’s Claim of Capturing Underwater Drone in Strait of Hormuz
The United States has rejected Iran’s claim that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps captured an American underwater drone operating in the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. Central Command spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins said the United States maintains positive control of all its operational drone assets, directly disputing Tehran’s claim that an American unmanned underwater vehicle had been seized.
Hawkins described Iran’s claim as “clearly desperate.”
Iran’s IRGC Navy had claimed it captured a U.S. underwater vehicle through an intelligence and electronic warfare operation and said specialists were attempting to recover data from the system
Iran initially identified the vehicle as a REMUS 600 before later describing the alleged second capture as a Mk 18 Mod 2 Kingfish.
The competing claims have not been independently resolved, with Washington maintaining that no operational U.S. drone asset has been lost.
