U.S. Says Iranian Boats Attempted to Seize American Vessel Near Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. military says Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) personnel approached a U.S. Navy vessel with two small boats in an apparent attempt to seize or board the ship near the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins, U.S. personnel detected the approaching boats and responded with gunfire, damaging both vessels and forcing them to withdraw. The U.S. vessel remained under American control, CENTCOM said.

Iranian media, meanwhile, reportedly described the incident differently, portraying it as an encounter involving fishing boats and reporting that some individuals were missing.

The accounts have not been independently reconciled, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain disputed.
