UEBERT ANGEL TURNING PROPHECY INTO BUSINESS, SAYS TOONSE PAMODZI ALLIANCE.
Toonse Pamodzi Alliance (TPA) spokesperson Dr. Lawrence Mwelwa has urged Zambians not to be swayed by election prophecies from Prophet Uebert Angel, accusing the Zimbabwean preacher of turning prophecy into a business for personal relevance and financial gain.
Dr. Mwelwa claimed Prophet Angel was seeking to attract attention and expand his following by linking his prophetic ministry to Zambia’s August 13 general elections.
His remarks come after several members of the Toonse Pamodzi Alliance attended Prophet Angel’s church service last Sunday, hoping to hear a prophecy on who would win the elections
During that service, Prophet Angel told congregants he would reveal the exact winner this coming Sunday, saying he needed to “release a prophetic word” concerning the election outcome.
Despite commanding more than 8.9 million followers worldwide, Prophet Angel has since come under criticism from some quarters, with opponents accusing him of seeking publicity through politically charged prophecies.
In a statement, Dr. Mwelwa cautioned Christians and the general public against accepting election prophecies without scrutiny, arguing that many high-profile prophets across Africa have made political predictions that later proved inaccurate.
“Zambia, Ghana, Zimbabwe and Nigeria have all witnessed prominent prophets confidently predicting election winners, only for the official results to prove otherwise. These individuals have turned prophecy into a business by using political endorsements to gain attention, followers and financial support,” he said.
He further urged believers to follow the biblical instruction in 1 John 4:1, which encourages Christians to “test the spirits” rather than accept every prophetic declaration at face value.
“A true prophet should lead people to Christ, preach righteousness and speak the truth, not act as a political campaigner,” Dr. Mwelwa added.
He also encouraged citizens to make their electoral choices based on policies, integrity and competence, rather than prophetic pronouncements.
According to Dr. Mwelwa, the future of any nation is secured through truth, justice, prayer and responsible citizenship, not through what he described as “profitable prophecies.”
