Uganda’s Army Chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba Announces Name Change
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s army chief and son of President Yoweri Museveni, has announced a change to his name.
Muhoozi said on X on Sunday that he should henceforth be identified as Muhoozi Kainerugaba Museveni. It is unclear whether he has formally applied for a name change as Ugandan law dictates.
In late August 2026, Muhoozi announced that he will run for president in Uganda’s 2031 general election in an attempt to succeed his father, who has been in power for more than 40 years.
