UK says forces ready after Iran warns over US bombers
Britain said its armed forces were ready to defend the country after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that UK bases used by US bombers to attack Iran would be considered legitimate targets.
The IRGC said the United States had flown bombing missions against Iran from RAF Fairford in southwest England.
“Our armed forces are ready to keep the United Kingdom safe from any kind of attacks, whether it’s on our soil or from abroad,” a British government spokesperson told Reuters.
Britain said its agreement allowing US use of British bases covered defensive operations against missile sites and capabilities used to attack shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The government said it wanted to protect its people and allies while avoiding a wider conflict.
