Ukraine and Russia Face Cyberattacks in a New Psychological Warfare Campaign, Fake Nuclear and Chemical Threat Alerts Spread
Ukraine and Russia have reported cyberattacks targeting their emergency alert applications, triggering a wave of fabricated warnings that fueled public confusion and fear.
In Ukraine, hacked alerts falsely warned residents of radiation leaks, chemical attacks and incoming Russian Oreshnik missile strikes. Ukrainian authorities said there was no radiation threat.
Russia also reported a cyberattack on its emergency alert app, with fake messages claiming nuclear warheads had been launched.
The incidents highlight a growing dimension of the conflict: psychological warfare through cyberattacks, exploiting civilian fears and undermining public confidence in emergency warning systems.
Neither side has independently confirmed who was responsible, and no direct link between the two attacks has been established.
