Ukraine Apologizes to Iran Over Cargo Ship Strike, Calls Incident an Operational Error

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reportedly held a direct phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi following the attack on an Iranian cargo vessel in the Caspian Sea.



During the conversation, the Ukrainian side reportedly explained that the strike was not intentional and resulted from an operational error.



Kyiv reportedly stressed that it had no intention of targeting a civilian commercial vessel and did not seek to further escalate tensions with Tehran.



Sybiha also reportedly expressed regret and apologized for the incident as diplomatic efforts continued to prevent further escalation between Ukraine and Iran.
