Ukraine Deploys AI-Powered Robotic Turrets to Counter Russian Drones
Ukraine is reportedly using AI-equipped robotic turrets to help detect, track and intercept Russian drones over Kyiv, as Ukrainian forces seek more cost-effective ways to strengthen the capital’s air defenses.
The systems are being deployed amid continued Russian drone and missile attacks and growing pressure on Ukraine’s stocks of air-defense interceptors.
Ukraine has faced shortages of interceptor missiles for systems such as the U.S.-supplied Patriot, increasing the need for alternative technologies capable of engaging drones while preserving expensive surface-to-air missiles for more sophisticated threats.
The use of AI-assisted robotic systems highlights Ukraine’s growing reliance on automated and lower-cost technologies to expand its air-defense network and counter Russia’s large-scale drone campaign.
