UKRAINE MOURNS THE VICTIMS OF RUSSIA’S OCTOBER 7 ATTACK

October 8 is a day of mourning across Ukraine for those whose lives were taken during Russia’s massive missile and drone attack.

At least 32 people were killed: 22 in Pryluky, two in Kremenchuk, two in Oleksandriia and six in Kyiv.

Pryluky carries the heaviest grief. A Russian cruise missile struck directly into a five-storey residential building, killing 22 people and injuring 54. Five of those killed were children. Three were only one year old, another was eight, and a fifth child later died in hospital.

More than 500 rescuers and emergency workers searched through the ruins until the operation was completed. They rescued 15 people, including a child, but with every layer of debris removed, more families received the news they had been praying would never come.

Today, flags are lowered and Ukraine pauses to remember. Behind every number was a life, a family and a place at someone’s table that will now remain empty.

May every person taken by Russia’s attack be remembered. May their families find the strength to endure an absence that words cannot heal.
