Ukraine Reports Downing of Russian Su-35 Fighter Jet
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet was shot down during combat operations over eastern Ukraine on July 8.
In an official statement, the Ukrainian Air Force announced the destruction of the aircraft, describing it as another loss for Russia’s tactical aviation. Ukraine’s Third Army Corps also released drone footage that it said showed the wreckage of the Su-35 burning after crashing to the ground.
Russian officials have not officially confirmed the loss. However, Russian military-linked sources claimed the pilot successfully ejected and was later recovered.
The Su-35 is one of Russia’s most advanced multirole fighter aircraft and is commonly used for air superiority missions and escorting strike aircraft during combat operations.
The reported incident could represent another setback for Russian air operations in eastern Ukraine, although battlefield claims from both sides could not be independently verified.
