Ukraine Reports Long-Range Strike on Iranian Vessel in the Caspian Sea
Ukraine has reported carrying out a successful long-range strike against an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea, marking a significant expansion of the conflict beyond the Black Sea region.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the targeted vessel was allegedly being used to transport military supplies, including drone and missile components, from Iran to Russia for use in the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian officials described the ship as a legitimate military target.
Iran strongly condemned the attack, insisting the vessel was a civilian commercial ship. Iranian authorities reported that one crew member was killed and at least one other was injured in the explosion.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran to lodge a formal protest. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the incident “cannot go unanswered,” accusing Ukraine of acting in coordination with Israel.
The incident highlights growing tensions between Ukraine and Iran, as accusations over Tehran’s alleged military support for Russia continue to escalate.
