Ukraine’s $2 Billion Patriot Missile Deal Delayed Until the 2030s, Reports Say

Ukraine’s planned purchase of 500 Patriot interceptor missiles from the United States, valued at more than $2 billion, is reportedly facing significant delays, with deliveries not expected to begin until the early 2030s, according to The Independent.

The delay comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his European allies had hoped to secure an urgent supply of the missiles within the coming weeks to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities against Russian missile and drone attacks.

However, the missiles are reportedly not being sourced from existing U.S. military stockpiles. Instead, they must be manufactured from scratch by American defense contractor Lockheed Martin.

The company’s current production capacity and manufacturing timelines mean Ukraine may have to wait several years before receiving the interceptors, raising concerns about the country’s ability to strengthen its air defense systems in the short term.
