UKRAINIAN AND GERMAN POLICE DISMANTLE €4.3 MILLION FRAUD NETWORK

Ukrainian cyber police, working alongside German law enforcement, have dismantled a network of fraudulent call centres accused of stealing more than €4.3 million from 135 German citizens.

Investigators say the suspects posed as brokers and financial advisers, persuading victims to invest in cryptocurrencies, shares and other financial products through fraudulent online trading platforms. Some victims were also manipulated into granting access to their online banking.

The money was allegedly transferred through bank accounts, cryptocurrency exchanges and digital wallets before being converted and divided among members of the organization.

The operation unfolded in two stages. In August, authorities conducted 39 searches across Kyiv and the Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Another 17 searches followed in Kyiv and the surrounding region during September.

Four suspects, including the alleged organizer, were detained, while another person was formally notified of suspicion. If convicted, they could face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

While Ukrainian soldiers defend their country and civilians sacrifice to keep it functioning, the people behind this scheme allegedly chose to enrich themselves by destroying the financial security of others. Their actions did not only harm individual German families—they risked damaging the trust Ukraine depends upon from its European partners.

Ukraine needs unity, accountability and confidence between nations. Anyone who uses Ukrainian territory to run international fraud should face the full consequences provided by law. The cooperation between Ukrainian and German investigators shows that these networks can be found, dismantled and brought before a court.
