Ukrainian long-range attack drones reached the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya overnight, igniting a major fire as waves of drones placed the Russian capital and its surrounding region under sustained pressure
Footage filmed after daybreak shows towering columns of black smoke and flames still burning across part of the industrial complex. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that a facility on the refinery’s grounds had been damaged, although the precise installation struck and the full extent of the damage have not been confirmed.
Russian authorities claimed that hundreds of drones were intercepted across the Moscow region, including scores allegedly heading toward the capital. Those figures remain unverified, but the refinery fire makes one fact unmistakable: despite the enormous concentration of air defenses surrounding Moscow, Ukrainian drones still broke through and reached a strategically important energy facility inside the city.
The attack also caused major aviation disruption, leaving the airspace around Moscow nearly empty on flight-tracking maps. Russia was forced to protect the capital, restrict civilian aviation and respond to drones approaching from several directions—and even then, it could not prevent the refinery from being struck.
Moscow took a hammering overnight. By sunrise, the consequences were still burning for the entire capital to see.
