CHANDA BACKS CHITIMUKULU’s CALL FOR INCREASED ALLOWANCE

The United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance member, Charlse Chanda, has supported the call to increase the monthly allowance for chiefs in Zambia to help them carry out their duties effectively.
The Chitimukulu of the Bemba-speaking people recently asked the government to adjust pay so chiefs can deliver their duties more effectively.
In April this year, the Government announced that it had revised the salary and subsidies for chiefs across the country, with paramount chiefs getting k18,000 up from K13,000. Senior chiefs’ salaries were adjusted from K 11,500 to 16,500 while ordinary chiefs’ salaries climbed from K 10,000 to K15,000, and chiefs’ retainers( Kapaso) were to be getting K5,500 from K2,500.
Mr Chanda who is the president of the United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia-UPPZ party said that chiefs needed more money to carry out their duties effectively.
Mr Chanda added that it does not make sense to pay councillors while leaving out headmen.
He explains that many villages do not have judicial officers. As a result, headmen are forced to settle local disputes and handle minor court cases.
The UPPZ leader further notes that the responsibility that chiefs currently carry out is huge but for very little reward.
He says the role of traditional leaders in keeping peace and order must be supported from the highest chiefs down to the village headmen.

Too many parasites feeding on the national treasury. Former vice peesidents were recently added to this list of parasites. Now Mr. Chanda wants headmen to be included on the list.
Why can’t these chiefs get onto some income generating scheme with their subjects to raise funds for their administration?
Already politicians are overcompensated with MPs getting hefty gratuities of K1million just for a 5 year service. What a country!!
Chanda is one. When we allow a bankrupt person a podium in itself shows that we lack the moral forthwith…
This chief is another who thinks we owe his and doesnt produce anything. Yet he wants to be fed.
