UPND ASSURES DEVELOPMENT IN CONSTITUENCIES HELD BY INDEPENDENT MPS

UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has assured newly elected independent Members of Parliament that their constituencies will continue to benefit from government development programmes regardless of their political affiliation.

Mr. Mweetwa said President Hakainde Hichilema had demonstrated a commitment to working with independent MPs and ensuring that national development was not determined by political party lines.

Speaking to Phoenix News, Mr. Mweetwa said the previous Parliament had a significant number of independent MPs, yet government continued to distribute development projects across constituencies fairly and without discrimination.

His remarks come amid concerns that some independent candidates who won parliamentary seats in the recently concluded general election, particularly former UPND members who contested as independents after failing to secure party adoption, could be disadvantaged in accessing government development programmes.

Mr. Mweetwa cited newly elected Mwandi Member of Parliament Iris Kaingu, who contested the election as an independent after failing to secure UPND adoption, as an example of why political differences should not stand in the way of development.

He said the government’s priority remains improving the lives of Zambians and that the UPND would continue working with Members of Parliament across the political divide to ensure development reaches every constituency.
