UPND Success in 5 years is killing PF – Makebi

Makebi Zulu says he and the party’s presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, are seeking office to improve the lives of Zambians, not to fight political opponents.

And Makebi asserts that, the only success the UPND government can point to over the past five years is what he described as “killing” the Patriotic Front—PF, rather than addressing the country’s economic and social challenges.

Speaking yesterday as the NRPUP leadership concluded its campaign in Central Province, Makebi criticised the government over the delayed opening of the crop marketing season, alleging that money meant for farmers has ended up in the hands of party cadres.

“We’re way deep into July, almost approaching August. What is happening is uncalled for. Government should wise up and do what is right by our farmers.

“At least let this be the last act of good intentions, or at least the last good deed they are going to do in relation to our farmers,” he said.

Makebi asserts that President Hakainde Hichilema’s focus has been on attacking political opponents instead of selling the UPND’s manifesto during campaign rallies.

“The President has been moving from rally to rally talking to people, but instead of selling his manifesto, he has embarked on character assassination on things that do not necessarily exist.

“But we’ll not dwell on that. We’ll not respond to what he calls us. We are just going to define who we are. We are a team committed to emancipating Zambia. We are a team committed to responding to the needs of Zambians,” he said.

He stressed that an NRPUP government would prioritise governance and service delivery rather than political battles.

“We are not going into government to fight opposition political parties, or indeed any other political parties. We are going into government to govern. And to govern is to look at the welfare of the people and respond to their needs,” he said.

Makebi further argued that the UPND had devoted its five years in office to weakening the PF instead of improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

“The UPND has spent the last five years fighting PF, killing PF. They have succeeded at that, and that’s the only success they can point at.

“Anything else regarding the welfare of our people, our farmers, the unemployed, our children, youths and women, nothing substantial has been done. There’s nothing to write home about,” he said.

He added that an NRPUP administration would strengthen governance institutions and focus on improving the lives of Zambians.

“We are going to be a government of laws. We are prepared, and we are going to make life better for Zambians by strengthening institutions of governance,” he said.
