UPND SWEEPS LIVINGSTONE CENTRAL AND MAYORAL SEATS
The UPND has swept both the Livingstone Central Parliamentary and Livingstone Mayoral elections.
Gracious Mayangwa was declared duly elected Member of Parliament for Livingstone Central Constituency after polling 18,390 votes.
His closest rival, Mwewa Chilufya of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), polled 4,026 votes, while Independent candidate Columbus Mulele received 755 votes.
Returning Officer Caren Kauseni announced that a total of 23,448 votes were cast.
Meanwhile, UPND candidate Bright Hanakamba has been elected Mayor of Livingstone after securing 39,185 votes.
Hanakamba defeated NRPUP candidate George Imasiku, who polled 7,835 votes, while Independent candidate Benson Kayuma received 1,979 votes.
District Electoral Officer Sombo Kawilila said 49,645 ballots were cast, of which 646 were rejected.
The UPND also secured all nine local government positions in Livingstone Central Constituency, with a mix of returning and newly elected councillors.
