….inside ruling party’s high-stakes turnout gamble

THE unexpected vacuum of competition has triggered a massive structural shift within the UPND campaign machinery.
While sailing through uncontested sounds like a political luxury, it has introduced a complex, high-pressure numbers game for the party’s top strategists.
Instead of defending local boundaries, the eight parliamentary heavyweights, alongside an array of unopposed mayors and councillors, are being converted into elite, mobile task forces.
Their primary objective is to eradicate voter apathy and maximise the absolute volume of the national popular vote.
The UPND secured seven National Assembly seats unopposed, as validated by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
Due to the lack of opposition, the ECZ confirmed no elections would be held and ballot papers not printed in these constituencies.
The winning candidates include Princess Kasune (Keembe West), Vumango Musumali (Zambezi West), and Trevor Mwiinde (Choma South).
Others are Edgar Sing’omba (Dundumwezi),Edgar Siakachoma (Kalomo South), Clement Ndeleki (Kazungula North), Nchimunya Siakole (Sinazongwe) and Situmbeko Musokotwane (Liuwa).
