DELUSIONAL US AMBASSADOR: “Land Expropriation Holding Back Billions in US Investments”
US Ambassador to South Africa Leo Brent Bozell III says the Expropriation Act is scaring off billions in American investment.
Here’s why that claim doesn’t hold up:
The Act is NOT arbitrary land grabbing. Signed in 2025, it requires expropriation to be for a “public purpose” and negotiated acquisition must be attempted FIRST. “Zero compensation” applies only in narrow cases like abandoned or speculatively idle land.
American money is still flowing in. In 2026, US aluminum giant Alcoa acquired South Africa’s largest aluminum plant for up to $5.6 billion. Cisco also signed a cooperation agreement. If the Act were truly a dealbreaker, these deals wouldn’t exist.
There are already hundreds of US companies that can’t afford to lose this market. From automotive giants to tech firms, American businesses have deep roots in South Africa and they’re not packing up anytime soon.
Even the SA government called him out. His remarks were branded “undiplomatic.” Bozell was summoned by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation and later apologized.
So is this genuine economic concern or political pressure ?
