MWAANGA URGES NATION TO MOVE PAST ELECTIONS, BACKS NEW DAWN ADMINISTRATION.
LUSAKA – Veteran statesman Vernon Johnson Mwaanga has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema and Vice President Dr. W.K. Mutale-Nalumango on their resounding victory in the just-ended general elections, and urged Zambians to put “election fever” behind and focus on delivering national development.
Dr. Mwaanga made the remarks earlier today when he hosted Dr. Nalumango at his residence in Lusaka during a courtesy visit.
He wished the New Dawn administration well and said it was time for the country to unite behind government programmes aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
For her part, Dr. Nalumango described Mr. Mwaanga as a brother and friend, saying their relationship transcends politics and is rooted in their shared service during the formative years of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy.
“Our conversation brought back many memories of those days and the experiences we shared in Zambia’s political journey,” she said.
The Vice President hailed Mr. Mwaanga as “an asset to the nation” whose decades of service to Zambia remain invaluable.
“Mr. Mwaanga has been an asset to our nation. His contribution to Zambia’s public and political life is significant, and as a country, we will continue to appreciate and honour the role he has played in shaping our nation,” Dr. Nalumango said.
She further thanked the former minister and diplomat for his wisdom and dedication over the years.
“Brother Mwaanga, we appreciate you. We thank you for your service, your wisdom and the many years you have dedicated to Zambia. May God continue to bless you and grant you good health and many more years,” she added.
Dr. Mwaanga also thanked the Vice President for the visit.
Mr. Mwaanga, who has served in various capacities in government since independence, remains one of Zambia’s most respected elder statesmen.
