VICE-PRESIDENT SAFE AFTER ZAF HELICOPTER INCIDENT IN NAKONDE

The Government has confirmed that Vice-President Dr. W.K. Mutale Nalumango is safe and in good health following a Zambia Air Force (ZAF) helicopter accident during take-off in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province.
In a statement issued by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick K. Kangwa, the incident occurred while the Vice-President was undertaking an official Government visit to the region.
Government said the helicopter was involved in an accident at take-off, but assured the nation that the Vice-President, all passengers and the flight crew escaped without serious injury.
As a precautionary measure, Dr. Nalumango was taken to a nearby medical facility for a routine medical assessment. She was later discharged after doctors confirmed that she was in good health.
The Government commended the Zambia Air Force flight crew for their professionalism and calm response during the incident. It also praised emergency responders and members of the public in Nakonde for their swift assistance, which ensured that everyone on board received immediate support.
Authorities have announced that investigations will be conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident in line with standard aviation procedures. Government said the findings will help determine the cause of the incident and ensure continued adherence to aviation safety standards.
Meanwhile, Government has assured the nation that the Vice-President remains in good health and will continue with her official programme as scheduled.
The incident has drawn nationwide attention, but Government has urged the public to remain calm and rely on official information as investigations proceed.
