PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM THE FAMILY OF HARRY FINDLAY
10 AUGUST 2026
We the family of Mr. Harry Findlay are issuing this statement out of deep concern for his safety, health and legal rights.
What transpired yesterday 9th August 2026 when at around 18:00 hours when Mr. Harry Findlay was removed from police custody and transported in an unmarked vehicle to undisclosed location. As of now we have no information.
When family members demanded to know what was happening and which State Institution was taking him out of the police station in the absence of his lawyers, no answers were provided. When the family members attempted to follow the vehicle to ascertain his whereabouts, they were threatened with arrest.
Mr. Findlay was arrested and detained by the Zambia Police on 4th August 2026. Today marks six days in detention without formal charge or lawful extension to his detention in police custody. We are advised by our lawyers that the transfer to a maximum security correctional facility requires legal authority. No such authority has been shown to his family.
Urgent health concern
The State is fully aware of Mr. Findlay’s medical condition; we have provided his full medical history available and made repeated requests that he be allowed to access specialised medical treatment. When he was removed his prescription medication was left behind, his medical condition requires daily medication failure to take his medication poses a serious and immediate risk to his health and life.
We have appealed to authorities to allow us to deliver his medication to him. We are yet to receive a response.
We have requested our lawyers to demand the immediate release of Mr. Findlay or that he be brought before a Court to answer any charges.
We ask that the law be applied to Mr. Findlay as it applies to every Zambian.
This is not a request for special treatment.
It is a request for lawful treatment.
Our family has exercised restraint throughout this ordeal. We have respected the investigative process, refrained from inflammatory statements and sought to engage the authorities through lawyers and lawful channels.
We cannot continue to remain silent when Harry continues to be deprived of his liberty without the transparency and judicial oversight that the rule of law demands.
We accordingly call upon the relevant authorities to either bring Harry Findlay before a competent court without further delay and disclose the lawful basis upon which his continued detention is sought, or release him immediately.
We ask only that the Constitution and the law be applied to Mr. Findlay in exactly the same manner in which they should be applied to every person in Zambia.
We ask Zambians to consider the principle involved: the constitutional protection of one citizen’s liberty ultimately protects the liberty of us all.
We continue to pray for Harry’s safety and health and thank everyone who has reached out to our family during these extremely difficult days.
The Findlay Family.

This situation is very easy. Be at ease. Stop speculating. Its no where near how you treated HH when you arrested him from his home. This is Zambia Police under UPND govt. Findlay will not be harmed in any way. That much be assured. We are not PF. We UPND. We different. To us, ALL ZAMBIANS ARE ZAMBIANS. Findlay is safe.
Why public statement, has that to do with the public?
