…breaking a 14-month public absence since the passing of her father, Edgar Lungu

IN a dramatic twist on election day, former Chawama Member of Parliament Tasila Lungu Mwansa emerged from total political isolation this morning, August 13, 2026.
She accompanied her husband, Patrick Mwansa, to cast his vote at the Kabulonga Boys Secondary School Polling Station in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.
The high-profile appearance stunned voters and election observers alike.
It marked the first time the prominent Patriotic Front figure has been seen in the public eye since June 5, 2025, when she officially announced the death of her father, Zambia’s sixth Republican president, Edgar Lungu.
Tasila’s prolonged, grief-stricken withdrawal from the public sphere had severe political consequences last year.
Her extended absence from the National Assembly following her father’s death led Speaker Nelly Mutti to declare her Chawama parliamentary seat vacant.
The decision sparked fierce national debate, ultimately triggering a heavily contested by-election in January 2026 to replace her.
Throughout that political storm and the ongoing, deeply personal standoff regarding her late father’s final resting arrangements, Tasila remained completely out of sight.
That wall of privacy broke this morning.
Arriving closely alongside her husband, former Kabulonga Ward 16 Councillor Patrick Mwansa, Tasila appeared calm as the couple navigated the busy polling lanes.
The duo shared a long history at this specific locality; the two initially met years ago while serving as local government councillors in Lusaka before marrying in a highly publicised 2020 ceremony.
While Tasila did not issue an official press statement to the swarming media at the centre, her presence spoke volumes.
For a political figure whose absence completely reshaped the local legislative landscape over the last year, her re-emergence at a polling centre signals that while she may have lost her seat, she has not abandoned the civic arena.
Who gives a….
She is a FORMER MP and now like all of us. Mulenga Sata is he still given a pediastal on which to be a “public fimo fimo?”
