PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says there is no entity called Barotseland within the Zambia.

Speaking when he addressed Permanent Secretaries, Controlling officers and Senior Government officials, President Hichilema called on Western province Permanent Secretary Simomo Akapelwa to inform people in the region that Zambia is a unitary State.

“You do not have a country called Western Province, Barotseland. We have nothing like that. It is a unitary state. I am serious it is a unitary state. Were you sitting, remind yourselves and the people of Zambia that we are one of Zambia, one nation, one person. We are interdependent,” he said.

And the Head of State said for the country to succeed in the economic expansion, there is need for team work.

President Hichilema warned that there will be consequences for non-delivery and encouraged the attendees to form friendships as they worked towards serving Zambians.

He acknowledged the strides that have been made in revenue collection and disbursement.

“We are not happy with the pace at which project and programme implementation is happening. This lays squarely on the feet of implementing Ministries and Spending Agencies. This will not be tolerated if Zambia has to attain 21st century status,” President Hichilema said.

He urged the officials to put on their thinking and innovation caps if they are to deliver efficiently.

President Hichilema stressed on the need to prioritise expenditure towards investment and revenue collection side of the budget as opposed to consumption.

  1. Bob Tondolo, your president is for the first time using his loaf, hence the congratulations and praise from Zambian patriots ba nene!

  2. For the first time, Monze Sec School and indigo Tyrol, today you sound maturely and objectivy, this is how genuine critics should sound or talk. We are still waiting for M’membe to comment especially that he has some Lozi blood in him.
Otherwise we thank the President for his boldness, if we had a country called Barotseland, the moment the Barotseland Agreement which was voluntarily entered into was signed, such a country ceased to exist. We became a unitary state under One Zambia One Nation.

  4. There’s no country called Barotseland for sure but that’s not the issue. The issue is that there are some people trying to create one. That’s what requires a response from the HH administration.
