ZAMBIA HAS OIL AND COPPER STATED KENNETH KAUNDA.
Former Zambian President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda once spoke about Zambia’s natural resources, saying that the country has both copper and oil.
According to Kaunda, Zambian leaders were afraid to push the oil agenda at the time because they feared being punished or pressured by powerful Western countries, especially the United States.
Kaunda also spoke about his experiences with former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former US President Ronald Reagan.
He suggested that some of their policies and actions were against his government and Zambia’s support for the liberation of Southern Africa.
During Kaunda’s time, Zambia was one of the frontline states supporting countries and movements fighting against colonialism and apartheid in Southern Africa.
Kaunda strongly supported Pan-Africanism, African independence and majority rule.
His story raises an important question, Did the politics of the Cold War affect Zambia’s efforts to explore and develop its natural resources?
Today, many Zambians are asking another question.
What happened to the oil that Kaunda spoke about, and what has changed regarding the discovery and exploration of oil in Zambia?
