WASHINGTON REVIVES UKRAINE PEACE TALKS
Washington is stepping up efforts to revive negotiations over the war in Ukraine, with Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, expected in Moscow on September 5 and 6 before a possible visit to Kyiv.
The renewed diplomatic push could mark a significant turning point after months of stalled negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Kyiv is ready for “substantive” high-level talks and has urged Washington to remain fully engaged in the diplomatic process.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, says a peace agreement remains possible but insists that territorial issues remain central to Moscow’s position. The Kremlin continues to place its territorial demands at the heart of any potential settlement.
On the battlefield, however, fighting continues to intensify. Russian strikes have killed several people in Ukraine, while Kyiv has stepped up drone attacks against Russian infrastructure.
The return to diplomacy therefore comes against a backdrop of escalating military attacks on both sides.
The key question now is whether this new U.S. initiative can bring Moscow and Kyiv any closer to a genuine breakthrough or whether the conflict will continue despite renewed efforts at the negotiating table.
