WATCH HICHILEMA’S REGIONAL APPOINTMENTS, CHOCKING ZAMBIANS, MSONI URGES TRADITIONAL LEADERS
By New Dawn Reporter
TRADITIONAL leaders should take keen interest and act against the systematic way President Hakainde Hichilema has adopted in dividing the country on regional basis, ALL Peoples Congress (APC) party president Nason Msoni has said.
Msoni is of the view that traditional leaders who are custodians of traditional norms in society should speak out on the action by President Hichilema which is now choking the peace and unity of the nation.
He says especially traditional leaders from regions being favoured with appointments into government should rise above and speak against that, as failure to do that will be an endorsement of regionalism going forward.
“The unprecedented regional appointments being made by president Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government have reached a critical point where the involvement of traditional leaders has become absolutely necessary and especially traditional leaders hailing from those regions being favoured with appointments,” he said.
The outspoken APC leader who is also an alliance partner in the UPND – Alliance has challenged traditional leaders to counsel President Hichilema so that he stops regional appointments before it is too late.
He says everyone has a responsibility to act against the route President Hichilema is taking Zambia on.
“The traditional rulers need to prevail and counsel Mr Hichilema before it is too late. We all have an obligation to work towards building peace and unity in the country. It is now incumbent upon our traditional rulers to collectively speak out on the escalating regional appointments in the UPND government,” he said.
Msoni has since suggested the need to establish the motive behind President Hichilema’s regional conduct which has created cracks in the governance of the country.
He said the Church has already spoken, but arrogantly President Hichilema has brushed concerns raised as trash.
“There is absolute need to establish the motive behind Mr Hichilema’s blatant conduct towards our peaceful country. The church and many other stakeholders have already expressed concerns on the regional appointments in the UPND led government,” he said.
Msoni who has become a heavy critic of President Hichilema and the UPND administration has reminded the Head of State about his promise to ensure that Zambia remained a unitary state, a commitment which he has quickly gone against.
He says by so doing now, it was clear that President Hichilema has lost legitimacy to govern the nation as a unitary state.
“Prior to the 2021 general elections Mr. Hichilema had promised Zambians that he was going to unify the country by being inclusive in the sharing of responsibilities, but his conduct whilst in government has been contrary to all his messages. Undoubtedly Mr.Hichilema is losing legitimacy and trust amongst Zambians at a fast rate. In a nutshell it is not too for Mr. Hichilema to seriously reflect on his conduct and change course before it is too late,” said Msoni.
