WE DON’T KNOW WHY THE POLICE KEEP BLOCKING US – MUKANDILA

THE Tonse Pamodzi Alliance has wondered why the Zambia Police on the Copperbelt has continued to restrict campaign activities of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), following another blocking incident involving the party’s presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile recently.

Mr. Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, were reportedly blocked by Zambia Police officers yesterday as the duo travelled from Chambeshi, where they had held a scheduled campaign rally to Mufulira.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Alliance Co-Secretary General, Celestin Mukandila said the police should focus on protecting citizens rather than interfering with political campaigns.

Mr. Mukandila said the alliance’s campaigns have remained peaceful saying that there is no justification for continued police interference.

He further urged the police to refrain from carrying out what he termed as politically motivated instructions targeting Mr. Mundubile’s campaign.

Mr. Mukandila added that elections are for the people of Zambia and not for politicians, stressing that all candidates should be allowed to campaign freely in accordance with the law.
