[ PHOTO FILE ] WHAT I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR ABOUT BEING LUSAKA MAYOR.
It’s very easy to go to civic centre as MAYOR and just sit in your air-conditioned office, make deals and travel the world for 5 years without even stepping ONE FOOT on the streets of Lusaka.
I’ve also learned that to effect real meaningful change, one has to “rock the boat” and go against the grain. Furthermore, I recognise that even though A MAYOR is not a ONE MAN SHOW, HE OR SHE SETS THE TONE FOR THE COUNCIL.
Order and cleanliness should not be faught against, it should be a natural part of PROGRESS.
We need to put workable systems in place that will outlive any individual…otherwise I see a rocky albeit exciting 5 years ahead, but ultimately, we will not relent in our pursuit for a functional CITY.
We will achieve some semblance of environmental consciousness, cleanliness and order… that I can tell you.
