WHEN A MAN’S TEARS SPEAK WHAT WORDS CANNOT
Stephen Kampyongo broke down at the funeral of Mutotwe Kafwaya.
And perhaps, for a moment, he was not a former Minister, not a politician, not a public figure.
He was simply a brother burying his brother.
Kafwaya was not just his colleague. He was his friend. His young brother. Someone he had shared laughter with, stood with, and worked with
But today, all those memories stood painfully against the reality of a coffin.
A life that should have continued.
A voice that should have been heard again.
A friend who should have walked through that door.
Instead, Kampyongo stood there with tears falling freely, as if his heart could no longer carry the weight of what his eyes were seeing.
There are some goodbyes that the mouth cannot say.
Some pain that the heart cannot explain.
And some deaths that leave even the strongest men asking, “Why did you have to go?”
Yesterday, Kampyongo’s tears told the story.
They were not the tears of a politician. They were the tears of a brother who has lost someone he loved.
Rest peacefully, Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya. 🕊️
A sad episode in our country…we last saw similar violence during the PF regime….
Too bad Mutotwe died a terrorist. There’s no honor in there. There’s nothing like defending democracy when you want to cause mayhem to the same people you want to govern by force.
This death shouldn’t be politicized. Mutotwe found himself wanting in a very dangerous way.
Kapyongo with his crocodile tears. These goons never learn.
He has felt how it feels to lose a loved one, under PF regime, many Mothers were made childless at the height of SK as Home Affairs Minister. To many Zambians, those are just crocodile tears.
This reminds me of the tears I saw on Joseph Kaunda’s young son at his burial during the brutal PF rule. Joseph Kaunda was shot in cold blood. An innocent soul was lost during Steven Kampyongo and Kanganja’s time. But these are the tears of an old man Kampyongo.
Yes, even as we mourning the unfortunate passing on of Mr. Kafwaya at the hands of security forces, let us spare a thought for the many who perished because of the overzealous Police Force (PF) under Mr. Kapyongo.
Vesper, Chibulo, Joseph Kaunda, Nsama Nsama, young student Mugala. They may not have been prominent in the political sense but were equally loved by their fathers, mothers, siblings, spouses, children, friends and relatives.
Any life lost under such cirmstances is one too many.
