WOMAN WHO WALKED FOR HH GETS TOYOTA VITZ

A 52-YEAR-OLD Mwinilunga woman who walked for 18 days to Lusaka to show appreciation to President Hakainde Hichilema for his sound leadership has been rewarded with a Toyota Vitz.

Maggie Sapatu received the vehicle from Jelumu Zambia in Lusaka yesterday, in a gesture witnessed by United Party for National Development (UPND) member George Mtonga.

Ms Sapatu began her journey from Mwinilunga on August 13, immediately after casting her vote, determined to reach Lusaka and personally thank President Hichilema for what she described as his leadership and delivery of development to citizens.

Her remarkable journey attracted widespread attention after she eventually met the head of State at Community House, where she presented him with a ‘village’ [free-range] chicken she had carried from Mwinilunga.

Jelumu Zambia subsequently stepped in to recognise Ms Sapatu’s determination by presenting her with the car.

The recipient appreciated the gesture from Jelumu.

The gesture has added another chapter to Ms Sapatu’s journey, which began as a personal expression of gratitude to Mr Hichilema but has since attracted national attention and support.

On Sunday, President Hichilema said Ms Sapatu’s journey demonstrated that ordinary citizens have something important to contribute to the country.

The President said he is humbled by the gesture and that meeting ordinary citizens who appreciated his leadership motivated him to work harder to deliver development.
