The Patriotic Front (PF) Presidential Candidate Hon. Dr Chitalu Chilufya has encouraged young people to focus on science , technology and hard work in all their undertaking.
Dr. Chilufya who is also former Minister of health told Smart Eagles on this year’s youth day commemoration that this is the only transformation that will drive the agenda for sustainable and and accelerated development.
“So, my message to our youth on this important day is to reset to a new paradigm where innovation, science technology and hard work are pitched high in all their undertakings. This is the transformation that will drive the agenda for sustainable and accelerated development ” He said .
This year’s youth day falls under the theme ‘Transforming minds for accelerated youth development.’
And Dr. Chilufya believes that this year’s theme is necessary because of the current times.
“Youth Day theme “Transforming Minds for Accelerated Youth Development” is an appropriate one for the season we are in. This transformation can only be driven by the energy of youth which represents hope of sustainable assured succession in all facets of life.” He reiterated.
He shares the view that freedom fighters fought for the political freedom that Zambians enjoy adding that the best way to honor their sacrifice is to embark on the positive transformational trajectory.
“Youths of yesterday fought for our political freedom; the best way to honour their sacrifice is to embark on this transformational trajectory to emancipate the nation from its economic turmoils” He said .
“But our recent history unfortunately does not seem to afford our youths their rightful political inheritance because they are often reserved for the sidelines and sometimes as tools for political violence.”He lamented.
“Those with executive power must work with all stakeholders to put a halt to this. Let’s harness the energy of youth to transform our country forever. We have to make this transformation a reality and a constant aspiration to mainstream their welfare into policy and legislative frameworks.” He added.
He has further complained that despite their active participation in the 2021 general elections their place in the benefits of the outcome delivered remain obscure.
“Just recently, our youths dominated the political processes leading to the 2021 general elections but their place in the benefits of the outcome delivered is obscure.” He said .
“So when a day like this one comes, it should not be a mere annual ritual to pass comments of token appeasement. Those who hold power, in trust for all of us, must improve the welfare of the youths, and do so, with tangible evidence of commitment to the welfare of our young people.
To all our youths let’s transform our minds and develop mother Zambia.” He added .
