ZAMBIA ARMY MOURNS WITH NAMIBIA

Zambia Army has dispatched a team of experts in military drills, culture and customs to assist the Namibian Defence Force in the preparation for burial of late President, His Excellency Mr Hage Gottfried Geingob who died on Sunday, 4 February,⁰ 2024 at the age of 82.

The team arrived in Windhoek yesterday, 13 February, 2024, and immediately, called on that country’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Honourable Frans Kapofi, and Commander of Defence, Air Marshal Martin Kambulu Pinehas at the Ministry of Defence headquarters.

Mr Kapofi expressed gratitude to the Republic of Zambia through the Minister of Defence, Mr Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma for the support.

He said, sending the Zambian military team to be part of those that will give a beffiting send off of that country’s late President is a commendable gesture.

And the Namibian Chief of Defence Force could not conceal his gratitude to Commander Zambia Army, Lieutenant General Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi for his prompt reaction to allow Zambia Army personnel to participate in the funeral procession.

Later, the team called on Zambia’s High Commissioner to Nambia, His Exellency Mr Steven Katuka at the Zambian Embassy in Windhoek, where the Zambian envoy to Namibia extended his thanks to President Hakainde Hichilema and Commander- In- Chief of the Defence Force for the gesture of solidarity in mourning President Geinkob.

The late Namibian President, Mr Hage Gottfried Geingob’s body will be intered on Sunday, 25 Februay, 2024 at the National Heroes Acre.

Mr Geingob’s who was born on 3 August, 1941 died on 4 February, 2024 at the
Lady Pohamba Private Hospital in the capital, Windhoek.

He served as the third President of Namibia from 2015 until his death. President Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 1990 to 2002, and served as Prime Minister again from 2012 to 2015.

The Zambian Defence Force has burried two Presidents who answered the sunset’s call while in office in the names of Dr Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, SC and Mr Michael Chilufya Sata.

The Zambian team comprises of Brigadier Generals Genoh Muke (Rtd) and Shadreck Mwale, who is Director General Zambia Army Religious and Moral Services Branch, Colonel Mathews Mwape, Deputy Director General Zambia Army Civil and Military Affairs, Army Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer Class One, Monday Nonde, Army Headquarters Garrison Sergeant Major, Mr Liston Mukangwa, and Military Training Establishment of Zambia (MILTEZ) Sergeant Major, Mr Eusebio Munsimbwe.
