ZAMBIA MINISTERS AND DRC KATANGA REGION GOVERNOR CONFERS
Copperbelt Province Minister Hon Elisha Matambo and his counterparts from the Ministry of Commerce, Mines and Transport hosted Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC’s) Katanga Province Governor Hon Jacque Kyabula Katwe on Thursday in Chingola.
The Minister who was delighted to welcome the DRC officials, in his welcoming remarks said just as Copperbelt Province and Katanga Province of the DRC are considered twins so is his relationship with the Governor.
Mr Matambo noted down some of the many similarities between the two countries among them being the tribes (Kaonde, lamba and Kalunda), the good Soil and the Minerals resources.
The Minister is optimistic about the coming of Presidents Hakainde Hichilema and Felix Tshisekedi as leaders of Zambia and DRC respectively, starting a new page that will strengthen trade and the relation between the two countries.
And the Minister of Transport and logistics Hon Frank Tayali is optimistic that time has come for Africa to change the narrative that previously made the continent status decline which unfortunately the world has ignored and has left Africa behind.
He explained that the queue of tracks on the Zambian side of Kasumbalesa border has been building up, running close to 50 kilometers. The Minister said that these trucks are just passing through Zambia and destined for DRC adding that Zambia’s developmental plans are not only focused on Zambia but also the DRC.
Meanwhile Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon Mulenga Chipoka said the meeting was a clear demonstration of the two Countries desire to work together.
“I am certain that Zambia and DRC are shaping how Africa should live in peace and harmony “, Hon Chipoka said.
Furthermore the Minister assured both Countries that Zambia is not going to sit and watch Kasumbalesa remain the only border post linking the two countries adding that the aim of the New Dawn Government is to open more border posts namely; Sakaya, Kasomena mwenda, Kipushi and many more in Solwezi which will have access to the border entries.
