ZAMBIA NEEDS EVIDENCE, NOT COMPETING PROPAGANDA

I am deeply concerned by the growing claims that an alleged militia hacked computer systems in order to change Zambia’s 2026 election results and unleash violence.

These are extremely serious allegations. If computer systems were hacked, then the nation deserves verifiable forensic evidence. Which systems were compromised? When did it happen? What results were affected? Who carried out the alleged hacking? What independent technical evidence supports these claims, and who has been formally charged?

There is also an important question that cannot simply be ignored: the GEN 20 results forms originate at polling stations, where the results are manually recorded and signed. Therefore, if it is being alleged that computer systems were hacked to alter election results, the authorities must explain how those alleged electronic changes relate to the original polling-station GEN 20 forms.

The signed GEN 20 forms should provide an important documentary trail against which electronically transmitted, consolidated or announced figures can be compared. If there are discrepancies, they must be investigated transparently and reconciled against the original polling-station records

At the same time, allegations of militia activity must not be used to silence legitimate questions about the electoral process or to discourage citizens and political parties from exercising their constitutional right to challenge disputed results.

A criminal investigation and an election petition are two separate legal processes. Both must be allowed to proceed according to law.

If crimes were committed, investigate them transparently and prosecute those responsible through due process.

If election results are being challenged, allow the courts to hear the evidence without intimidation, interference or political pressure.

Zambia does not need competing narratives to determine truth. We need evidence, transparency, due process and the rule of law.

Produce the forensic evidence.
Produce the original GEN 20 records.
Reconcile the figures transparently.
Let the courts work independently.
Let truth prevail.
