ZANU-PF Harare Province Calls for Mnangagwa to Represent Party In 2030 Presidential Elections
HARARE — ZANU-PF’s Harare Province has outlined four key resolutions it expects all party provinces to endorse at the forthcoming National People’s Conference in Chinhoyi, measures that would keep President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party’s President and First Secretary until at least 2030 and position him as the sole candidate for the presidency thereafter.
Godwills Masimirembwa, the ZANU-PF Harare provincial chairman, stated the province’s position in remarks reported on Monday.
He said Harare expects the conference to approve alignment of the party constitution with the national constitution so that the leadership cycle for the party presidency increases from five years to seven years.
The second resolution calls for postponement of the National Congress, currently due in 2027, to 2030. Consistent with that delay, Masimirembwa said, Mnangagwa should remain party President and First Secretary until the congress is held.
At the 2030 congress, the province wants Mnangagwa endorsed as the sole presidential candidate for elections to be conducted by Parliament under the revised system.
Masimirembwa expressed confidence that ZANU-PF would win the parliamentary elections in 2030 and that Harare Province would secure more seats than it currently holds, thereby enabling Mnangagwa to remain Zimbabwe’s president beyond 2030.
The National People’s Conference is scheduled to take place in Chinhoyi.
The resolutions form part of provincial submissions ahead of the gathering, which is expected to debate alignment of the party’s internal statutes with recent changes to the national Constitution.
Those changes, enacted earlier in 2026 through Constitutional Amendment No. 3, extended presidential and parliamentary terms from five to seven years and shifted the method of electing the president to a parliamentary vote while postponing the next harmonised elections to 2030.
Masimirembwa’s comments were carried in a video circulated by party-aligned accounts.
The Harare Province position adds to similar calls from other provincial structures for adjustments to the party’s leadership timetable.
