Zanu PF Sets Crucial Politburo Meeting to Open Annual Conference Amid Constitution Amendment Rifts

HARARE — Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF party will hold a key politburo meeting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at its headquarters in Harare to formally open its annual conference, scheduled to run from October 13 to 17 at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Mashonaland West Province.

The meeting follows an extraordinary politburo session last Friday that was postponed amid open disagreements and clashes over proposed changes to the party’s constitution intended to align it with the national constitution.

Approval of the contentious constitutional amendments and the conference agenda will be the central items for discussion on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the party will convene a central committee meeting at 10 a.m., also at party headquarters.

Delegates from Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces are expected to travel to Chinhoyi, about 120 kilometres north of Harare, on Thursday. The conference is due to open officially on Friday at the university venue and close on Saturday, with participants returning home on Sunday.

An official Zanu PF notice dated October 12, 2026, from the Department of Information and Publicity confirmed the politburo meeting for 2 p.m. on October 13 and the central committee meeting for 10 a.m. on October 14.

It instructed members to be seated by 1:45 p.m. and 9:45 a.m. respectively.

The notice was issued under the name of Secretary for Information and Publicity and Party Spokesperson Cde. Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, advising that Secretary General Cde. Adv. Jacob F. N. Mudenda had called the sessions.
