Zelensky Accuses U.S. and EU of Failing to Deliver Air Defenses as Russian Strikes Continue
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused the United States and the European Union of failing to provide enough air defense systems, arguing that delays in supplying Patriot missiles are leaving civilians vulnerable to continued Russian attacks.
In his remarks, Zelensky said that anti-ballistic missile systems should be protecting people rather than remaining in storage, insisting that Ukraine’s urgent need for advanced air defense has long been known to its Western partners.
According to Kyiv, Washington and Brussels are aware of Ukraine’s military requirements but have not delivered sufficient Patriot systems and interceptor missiles despite what Ukrainian officials describe as available stockpiles.
Reports also claim that U.S. President Donald Trump has opposed providing additional Patriot systems to Ukraine and has blocked efforts related to Patriot missile production in Ukraine. These claims have not been independently verified, and no official U.S. confirmation has been issued.
Ukraine has repeatedly argued that strengthening its air defense network is essential to protecting major cities, critical infrastructure, and civilians from Russian missile and drone attacks. Patriot systems are among the most capable Western air defense platforms, designed to intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aircraft.
The comments come as Russia continues to conduct long-range missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, keeping pressure on the country’s air defense capabilities. Kyiv has consistently urged its Western allies to accelerate military assistance, warning that delays in deliveries could result in greater civilian casualties and damage to critical infrastructure
