ZELENSKYY AND TUSK: UKRAINE AND POLAND HAVE ONE COMMON ENEMY
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a bilateral meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during the inaugural Carpathian Eight summit in western Ukraine.
“Ukraine and Poland are strong neighbors, friends and partners, and we have one common enemy,” Zelenskyy said. Their talks focused on preserving unity, strengthening cooperation and bringing Russia’s war to an end. Zelenskyy also thanked Poland for preparing a new military-support package for Ukraine.
The two leaders discussed expanding the Carpathian Initiative into a platform for regional security, energy, logistics, trade and cross-border development. Ukraine is prepared to share the hard-earned experience it has gained during the war while building cooperation that benefits the entire Carpathian region.
Tusk has remained one of Ukraine’s clearest allies in Polish politics, even as he has repeatedly been forced to steady relations following disputes over history, trade and statements from political figures belonging to rival camps. His message has remained consistent on the central issue: Russia is the common threat, and a secure Ukraine is essential to Poland’s own security.
Warsaw and Kyiv will not agree on everything. Mature allies rarely do. What matters is that political disagreements are not allowed to obscure the greater reality facing both nations across their eastern frontier.
Russia benefits whenever Poland and Ukraine turn against one another. Their strength lies in refusing to let that happen.
