ZELENSKYY: JUST 12 PATRIOT INTERCEPTORS A MONTH AS PAID DELIVERIES FACE DELAYS

Ukraine is receiving only 12 Patriot interceptor missiles a month from the United States—roughly a quarter of the delivery pace under Joe Biden, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Bloomberg. He also said some weapons deliveries already paid for through the PURL initiative have yet to receive American approval.

“And this is not a technical problem,” he emphasized.

PURL allows NATO allies and partners to purchase American weapons for Ukraine. These are funded orders intended to meet urgent battlefield needs, including air defense. Zelenskyy’s warning is that payment has not been enough to secure approval for all the deliveries Ukraine is waiting for.

Patriot interceptors are among Ukraine’s most important defenses against Russian ballistic missiles. A shortage means harder decisions about how to protect cities, energy infrastructure and other essential facilities. Ukrainian crews can demonstrate extraordinary skill, but they cannot fire missiles they have not received.

Under Biden, the United States supplied these interceptors through military assistance. The purchases Zelenskyy described under Trump require funding—a shift that makes delays to already-paid supplies especially difficult to justify to people living beneath Russian attacks.

Zelenskyy also said American steps appeared aimed at convincing Ukraine to capitulate. He stopped short of claiming that this was Washington’s established intention, but warned that this is how its actions look from Kyiv.

That distinction matters. So does the situation Ukraine faces: pressure to restrain strikes on Russian diesel infrastructure while the interceptors needed to defend Ukrainian facilities arrive in quantities its president says are sharply reduced.

Ukraine’s defenders are giving everything they have. Their ability to protect the country should be strengthened with reliable deliveries, not left dependent on approvals that remain unresolved while Russian missiles keep coming.
