Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has defended the controversial Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), saying the proposed reforms are intended to support the country’s long-term national development.

According to the proposal, CAB3 would introduce significant constitutional changes, including extending the terms of the President, Parliament and local authorities from five years to seven years, which critics argue could delay the next general elections until 2030. The bill also proposes changes to the composition of the Senate and other electoral and governance structures.

Supporters say the reforms would promote political stability and allow the government to focus on achieving Vision 2030 development goals. Critics, however, argue the proposed amendments could weaken democratic accountability and reduce citizens’ ability to choose their leaders through regular elections.

The proposals have sparked intense debate across Zimbabwe, with political parties, legal experts and civil society groups expressing sharply different views.

Do you support the proposed CAB3 constitutional changes, or should Zimbabwe keep its current electoral system? Share your thoughts below. 
