Zimbabwean Businessman Apologises After Viral Sandton Restaurant Threats

Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima has apologised after a video showing him threatening women at Vlamo restaurant in Sandton went viral.

In the video, he is heard threatening to “murder” the women and “p**t a b**llet in their heads”. Vlamo said he is not the owner, employee or affiliate of the restaurant and was removed after management became aware of the incident. A case was opened with SAPS on Saturday.

Mudzingayima, who has been linked to Moriel Infrastructure Group, said in a personal statement that his conduct and language were unacceptable and that he takes responsibility for the fear and distress caused.

He said he regrets his actions, will cooperate with the police investigation and is seeking professional guidance and conflict-management support.

The incident has also prompted scrutiny of Moriel Infrastructure Group. Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has instructed SANRAL to investigate whether the company was lawfully appointed and is meeting its contractual obligations.
