Zimbabwe’s R1bn SAA Debt Likely Lost – SA Parliament
South Africa parliament believes the nearly R1 billion owed to South African Airways (SAA) by the Zimbabwean government will not be recovered.
The conclusion was made by Bosa leader Mmusi Maimane, chairperson of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Appropriations.
Maimane was speaking Tuesday after a meeting with the Department of International Relations (Dirco) on the long-running debt saga.
Dirco Director-General Zane Dangor told the committee on Tuesday that diplomatic efforts by his department, National Treasury, and current and former international relations ministers had failed to recover the money.
The debt is owed to the cash-strapped national carrier SAA.
