ZNBC Journalist Detained Over Secret Audio Recording

A 37-year-old Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) journalist, MacPherson Mukuka, has been detained by police for allegedly recording a private conversation without informing those involved and publishing the audio on the Earth Television Zambia Facebook page.



Police say the alleged offence occurred between July 14 and 17, 2026. Mukuka is being investigated under Section 10 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025, which prohibits recording private conversations without prior notice.



Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the arrest, adding that investigations are ongoing and Mukuka remains in custody.

Police you should think twice regarding this law,you are actually protecting predators abusing this electronic gadgets, i was been threatened by some one just a few days ago over the phone and if the law prohibits me to get such threats recorded its a shame. Threats which eventually can lead to more severe actions is been prohibited from been collected. These law makers some do not have their on heads when passing laws,imagine someone threatening to kill you and the law doesn’t allow you to get such info to shame with law enforcement officers how else ll we get protection.
