ZRA officer gets self drunk before taking own life at lodge, in Nyimba!
A 55-YEAR-OLD Zambia Revenue Authority—ZRA employee has died after allegedly taking his own life at a lodge in Nyimba District.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba tells TV Yatu that, Enos Malaya of Lusaka checked into a named Lodge on the last day of July, 2026 at around 21:00 hours with the intention of spending the night.
The following morning, at around 09:00 hours, lodge workers began cleaning the rooms and knocked on Room Number One but received no response.
The door was locked from the inside.
Acting lodge manager Luka Phiri then peeped through the bathroom window and saw the occupant lying on his back and unresponsive.
The matter was immediately reported to Nyimba Police Station, and officers who rushed to the scene gained entry into the room, where they found the body of the deceased in the bathroom.
Mweemba says his officers recovered three empty bottles of insecticide, several empty beer bottles and a plastic cup suspected to have been used to mix the substances.
He says when officers inspected body of the deceased, foam around his mouth was noted and says he had no visible physical injuries.
Officers also recovered a small exercise book containing a note addressed to his relatives in which he stated that he had decided to end his life because of embarrassment over an unspecified matter.
The body has since been taken to Nyimba District Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination and transportation to Lusaka.
Mweemba says the deceased’s relatives have been informed, and that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
