ZULU CULTURAL ACTIVIST PHAKEL’UMTHAKATHI BLASTS JACOB ZUMA, ACCUSES FORMER PRESIDENT OF DIVIDING TRADITIONAL LEADERS AND MISLEADING SOUTH AFRICANS!
Nkosikhona Ndabandaba, popularly known as Phakel’umthakathi, has publicly criticised former President Jacob Zuma, raising questions about the growing intersection between party politics and traditional leadership in South Africa.
Phakel’umthakathi alleges that Zuma is contributing to divisions among traditional leaders, particularly in Mpumalanga. He claims that political loyalty to the MK Party could influence who gets considered for positions within traditional leadership structures, including kingship.
He also made a historical allegation involving former President Nelson Mandela, claiming that Zuma once wanted traditional leadership institutions and chieftaincies dismantled.
The cultural activist further stressed that although he does not support the MK Party, he does not want political organisations established by Black South Africans to be controlled or influenced by outsiders.
Phakel’umthakathi is known for his involvement in Zulu cultural activities, amabutho structures and public demonstrations. His latest remarks have now brought him into a political debate involving one of South Africa’s most influential political figures.
These remain his allegations, and Zuma’s response to the specific claims was not included in the material available.
Do you agree with Phakel’umthakathi, or should traditional leadership stay completely independent of political parties?
